MGM is negotiating with the director, documentary filmmaker and producer Brazilian Jose Padilha for this to take over the direction of the remake of “Robocop”, the classic and futuristic violent tale that Paul Verhoeven signed in 1987, about a half-human, police half machine.
Once the name is realized when the study director will hire a new writer to prepare the script from scratch, under the supervision of the director, allegedly Padilha if everything goes as planned, who will also be given margin maneuver.
According to Moviehole, Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp would be eligible to play the lead character, Officer Alex J. Murphy (Robocop), played in the original 1987 film by Peter Weller. In addition, the source said, the study hopes to have the script completed before deciding on one of these actors.
RoboCop will certainly be an interesting challenge for players of the likes of Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp, though probably much of the film appears with a metal mask. We have recent examples such as Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man”, where more than fulfilled.
For the moment do not know when production will start, although its release date will not arrive until 2013. As you know, in the original film, Peter Weller played a Detroit cop who escaped death by being turned into a being half man – half machine.
